Remote Data Backups, Inc. (www.RDBU.com) recognizes the importance of corporate environmental responsibility, and does its part to deliver "Green Backups" in a variety of ways.

Green Data Centers
Two features combine to effectively eliminate one of the largest energy demands for a data center: air conditioning.

Our world-class data centers, housed in limestone mines located more than 200 feet underground, leverage the natural cooling advantages of underground facilities.
Engineers have also discovered ways to dig holes in the limestone to capitalize on the natural flow of air.
A few statistics help put data center energy consumption in perspective:

Studies suggest that data centers account for about two percent of the electricity consumed in the U.S.
U.S. data centers, if viewed as an industry, would be near the top five industries in energy use.
Electricity can account for up to 15 to 20 percent of the operating cost in a U.S. enterprise data center.
Data centers can be as high as 40 times more energy-intensive than conventional office buildings, according to a study by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories for the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.
We also employ the latest industry Best Practices for energy efficiency, including:

Intelligently consolidating servers and optimizing hardware capacity -- in everything from processors to redundant power supplies -- to optimize performance and energy conservation;
Deploying best-in-breed, energy-efficient (EnergyStar-compliant) servers and equipment;
Utilizing high-efficiency power supplies, smart energy monitoring and power management, CPU throttling, etc.
Energy-Efficiency for our Backup Clients
Our secure offsite backup solution requires just our agent software and Internet access. It effectively eliminates all forms of client backup media (backup tapes, external drives, DVDs, CDs, etc.), saving your local landfill volumes of contributions. It also reduces the need for archiving records on paper.

Our backup software makes it easy to run automatic backups, while conserving power. You can choose to have our backup software prompt you whenever you log off or shut down. You can also right click on the system tray icon and "Run a backup, then Shut Down" when it completes.

We know how quickly technology becomes extinct, and encourage our clients and partners to safely and responsibly recycle old computers and electronics.

First, be sure to delete all your private data.
Then choose a reputable recycling company and know the final resting place of your outdated equipment.
Some manufacturers even have a take-back program as an effective means of reducing landfill waste.
You can save energy each day by making effective use of the power settings on your computers and monitors. Here are some helpful articles (Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP)

RDB's 'Green' Office
Our corporate office in Fort Collins, Colorado endorses a variety of "Green" practices, such as operating a "paperless office" by conducting the vast majority of our communication and marketing digitally (website, email, phone) and enacting a pervasive interoffice recycling program.

"Living here in Fort Collins, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, it's easy to appreciate the beauty of nature," says Dan Dugal, CEO and founder of Remote Data Backups. "We like knowing that while we're saving our clients' data, we're also saving our planet."

Note: The LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) certification program, created by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) that standardizes and rates the overall sustainability of a building, has no provisions covering subterranean facilities.
