Are blade servers more green IT than traditional rack servers?

I understand that they reduce physical space and energy, but why else would one choose to purchase blade servers versus traditional rack servers? How do they compare in cost and maintenance? Are blade servers
the best option for a small company moving forward?

We might be upgrading in our small company and I'm trying to get some feedback and research before approaching my team. Any thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thoughts on outsourcing IT services?

My company is on the smaller side (40-50 employees with 2 locations),
and we’re finding that we need more IT support. In terms of initial
cost & overall ROI, is it better to build an IT group from within,
or outsource IT services to a reputable vendor?

We have a Focus Community member that is looking for some help with this - any insight?

Do you use more than one desktop security client?

I ask because I do. I use a free antivirus product and because of my past employment with Webroot Software I use their SypSweeper product. That plus the automatic blocking of malicious sites by Firefox seems to do the trick.

Do you get by with a single product? Norton? McAfee? AVG? Which one? Or do you feel you need belt and suspenders?

Please don't tell me you use nothing!!!!

Where do open source IT solutions make the most sense, and what are your favorites?

Editors at Focus recently published "Open Source, Open World," a time line of open source developments in multiple fields across the globe (at http://www.focus.com/fyi/information-technology/open-source-open-world/). But where business technology is concerned, where do open source solutions make the most business sense -- in the infrastructure, on users' systems, on servers, elsewhere or not at all? And what sp… Continue

How best to win over skeptics of new IT initiatives?

IT investments can affect stakeholders across an organization, from
field forces to senior executives. That means there can be skeptics and
doubters of the effectiveness of those investments lurking almost
anywhere in that organization. How best to anticipate and respond to
expressions of "FUD" ("fear, uncertainty and doubt") where IT
investments are concerned, whatever their source?

Are you on Facebook and LinkedIn?

I would like to connect with you there also. I am trying to make more friends and fans so that I can spread awareness for breast cancer during pregnancy. I was diagnosed Stage 3 in the 5th month of my pregnancy in May. My status updates on Facebook and LinkedIn are usually about my fight.
